Shirley Hulin Thomas departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 4 days.
She was born in Hardin County on Sept. 4, 1937, the daughter of the late John Franklin and Willie Lois Godwin Hulin. On April 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to Billy Joe Thomas, who preceded her in death on May 15, 2016.
Shirley was a member of Savannah Church of Christ. Through the years she had worked for Hardin County School System at Central High School in the office, a position she held for many years; First National Bank; Hardin County Courthouse for the office of Vernon Plunk; in 1981, she became the second female real estate agent at Pickwick Lake, working for Callens Realty; and then for Mark Wayne Realty until her retirement. Sewing, needlepoint, arts and crafts, wreath making, flower gardening and raising plants are just a few of the things she enjoying doing in her free time. Shirley loved coffee and Doublemint gum, and could talk on the phone with her friends for hours. She was a loving mother and grandmother…she loved her family and her grandkids.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lois Ann Seaton and her husband Nicky of Savannah and Mary Jo Wilson and her husband Keith of Jackson, Tennessee; grandchildren, Whit Seaton and his wife Ashley, Allie Seaton and Reid Wilson; and a sister, Johnnie Barnes of Counce.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a grandchild, Tanner Wilson; great-grandchild, Kingston Worsham; and a sister, Nancy Callens.
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Barry Binion officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
