James H.Pennington, 74, of Savannah, died on Saturday, Feb. 8.

He was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the son of the late Francis Isaac and Bessie Jewel Shumate Pennington. He was united in marriage to Patsy Pipes, who survives.

Mr. Pennington was an evangelist minister and had ministered at The Carpenter’s Shop in Savannah. He was a minister of the gospel for 57 years since the age of 17.  He had previously worked for 20 years at K-Mart in Jackson, Tennessee. He had served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War with honorable discharge.

In addition to his wife, Patsy Pennington of Savannah, he is survived by his children, Donna McHome and Denna Troutt, both of Lexington, Tennessee, Betty Stricklin, Lisa Moore, Jimmy Lockard and Beverly Crowe, all of Savannah; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jesse Wayne Pennington of Missouri and Daniel Thomas Pennington of Arizona; sister, Margaret Belle Miller of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Jewel Pennington, Shirley Mae Pennington, and Peggy Ann Pennington; and a brother, Richard Joe Pennington.

Services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Keith Holloway and Willy Keehn officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hebron Cemetery at Savannah.
