Flood alert: Wharf Road closing 24-36 hours, Botel Road submerged

UPDATE, FEB. 11– At about 12:40 this afternoon TVA spokesman Scott Fiedler told The Courier that Wharf Road, which runs through the TVA campground just below Pickwick Dam, is expected to be closed today in the very near future, “if not closed already.” Fiedler said TVA police are also in the area and have counted and noted the residents in the area who are expected to remain in place during the current flooding.

INITIAL STORY– Botel Road leading from the southern end of the TVA campground, Bellis Lane and the Arnold Lane area are under flood water and inaccessible.
TVA spokesman Scott Fiedler said Monday afternoon that Wharf Road, which runs through the TVA campground, is still clear, but also noted that TVA is evacuating equipment and material from the site using Wharf Road.
“We understand that it’s the only road that people down there have to get in or out, so we will leave it open as long as we can, but when water covers the road we will have to close the gate for safety purposes. We estimate people have maybe 24, but no more than 36 hours of access before we have to close that road,” Fiedler said.
Fiedler said those needing to use the road should watch out for TVA trucks and vehicles that may be transporting equipment or material from the area.
