Jimmie Banks McWhorter Allegood, of Savannah, departed this life on Friday, Dec. 6, at the age of 81 years and 3 months.
She was born in Savannah on Sept. 6, 1938, the daughter of the late Harvey Russell and Mary Sue Hollins Banks. On Dec. 22, 1995, she was united in marriage to Billy Gene Allegood, who survives.
Jimmie was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in the Olivet Community of Savannah. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and was also a Girl Scout leader. Jimmie loved reading, flowers, working in her yard, baby-sitting and cooking.
In addition to her husband, Billy Allegood of Savannah, Jimmie is survived by her children, Pam Irvin of Savannah, Belinda Arrowood and her husband Dwayne of Murfreesboro, Patti Maness of Savannah, Lisa Matthews of Savannah, Rhonda Dempsy and her husband Philip of Savannah, Rhonda Morgan and her husband Dave of Byhalia, Mississippi, Dwayne McWhorter and his wife Vicki of Mansfield, Louisiana, Richard Allegood and his wife Donna Kay of Hazel Green, Alabama, Rhonda Hines and her husband Steve of Elberta, Alabama, Donna Weeks and her husband David of Hazel Green, Alabama, Katherine Shepard and her husband Michael of Madison, Alabama, and Valerie Stewart and her husband Robin of Madison, Alabama; brothers, Danny Banks and his wife Doris of Savannah and Donnie Banks and his wife Francis of Linden, Tennessee; sister, Kaye Ralph and her husband Bill of Bartlett, Tennessee; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by her former husband, Billy Joe McWhorter; her daughter, Donna June Harris; sisters, Dorothy Louise Alexander and Teresa Jane Wilkerson; and a brother, David Russell.
Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Robert Sadler officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
