Watch for road closings during ‘Christmas on Main’ evenings in Savannah

Christmas on Main downtown events will result in five nights of road closures in December, the City of Savannah reminds motorists.

Main Street, between Guinn Street (near The Courier) and Commerce Street (near Hickory Pit restaurant) will be closed to through traffic on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Friday, Dec. 20, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Other closures include Cherry and Court Streets (around Court Square), Williams Street (between Main Street and Deford Street). These roads will be closed to through traffic Friday, Dec. 6, 7 a.m. through Sunday, Dec. 8, at noon; Friday, Dec. 13, 7 a.m. through Sunday, Dec. 15, at noon; and Friday, Dec. 20, 7 a.m. through Saturday, Dec. 21, at noon.
Closures may change as a result of weather, event alterations and other unexpected circumstances.
Savannah City Manager Tom Smith said parking for the downtown holiday events includes the parking lot behind the Courthouse, field between the Hardin County Correctional Center and Hunter, Smith and Tallent on Water Street, and graveled areas behind the shops on the north side of Main Street including Grisham’s and others.
