Billy Gene Franks was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Waynesboro, the son of the late Ray and Frances Bridges Franks. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Dicus on Nov. 7, 1959.
He died on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Mr. Franks attended First Baptist Church in Waynesboro and worked for Hassell and Hughes Lumber Company serving as a lumber grader for many years.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Franks of Waynesboro; a son, Jerry Wayne Franks and wife Jennifer of Waynesboro; two daughters, Debbie Curtis and husband Jarvis of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Teresa Bell and husband Ricky of Burns, Tennessee; a brother, Joel Franks of Savannah; three sisters, Betty Blackwelder of Savannah, Glenda Ricketts of Dallas, Texas, Patricia Hutton of Savannah; five grandchildren, Tanya Horton and husband Joey, Hannah Franks and husband Conrad, Patrick Bell and Brittany, Heather Franks, Bradley Franks; and two great-grandchildren, Allie Belew and Jamie Horton.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Franks was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Franks; and a grandchild, Haley Belew.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m., at Clifton Cemetery in Clifton with John E. Banks officiating.Arrangements by Shackelford’s of Wayne County.
