Shiloh Battlefield is offering a ranger-led bicycle tour about the artillery at the Battle of Shiloh on Saturday, July 27.
Riders will visit the sites of batteries engaged in battle and learn about the action there and the men manning the big guns. Batteries that will be discussed include: Hickenlooper’s 5th Ohio Light Artillery (USA), the Washington Light Artillery (CSA), and Terrill’s Battery H, 5th U.S. Regular Artillery, to name a few.
Participants must provide their own bicycles. Anyone 16 and under must wear a helmet as per state law. The six-plus mile ride is over moderately level ground. Bring water, suitable footwear, and dress appropriately for the weather conditions of the day. Sunscreen and insect repellent are also recommended.
The tour will meet at the Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. Riders are invited to contact the Shiloh Battlefield Visitor Center at 731-698- 5696 to register in advance.
