One killed in three-vehicle crash on Tenn. 69

UPDATE, July 15, 4:35 p.m. – Kimberly Benson suffered five fractured vertebrae, two broken ankles, a broken wrist and a broken nose in Friday’s crash, according to a woman who identified herself as Benson’s sister, Brittany Kelly.
She said Kimberly declined to be transported by ambulance from the scene of the crash and instead went to a doctor the following day. Kimberly remains hospitalized in Florence, Alabama.
“I guess she didn’t realize how badly she was hurt,” Kelly said Monday.

INITIAL STORY — One person died in a three-vehicle crash Friday in Hardin County on Tenn. 69 at the intersection of The Lord’s Way.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Shannon Roman, 42, of Canyon Lake, California, who was killed, was driving a 2014 Nissan Maxima north on Tenn. 69. Roman crossed the center dividing lines and struck head-on a southbound 2016 Buick Regal driven by Jamie Benson, 43, of Savannah.
After impact, Roman’s vehicle spun and struck the left rear of a 2018 Nissan Armada operated by Matthew Smith, 43, of Savannah. Smith, who had three passengers, was traveling north on Tenn. 69 and had stopped to turn left onto The Lord’s Way at the time of the collision.
A passenger in Benson’s vehicle, Kimberly Benson, 53, had minor injuries and no one was injured in Smith’s vehicle.
All occupants of the three vehicles were reported to have been wearing seat belts, and alcohol and drugs were not cited as factors in the crash. No citations were issued.
