Bail set at $2 million each in husband’s shooting death

Bail was set at $2 million each Thursday for two people charged in a fatal shooting in Savannah.
The victim, Jeffrey White, 50, was killed early Wednesday morning outside his Youngs Lane home. His wife, Elaina White, 38, is charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder and criminal responsibility to commit first degree murder.

Charged with first degree murder, Christopher Mailhot signs a document at his arraignment Thursday morning.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says White plotted with Christopher Mailhot, 21, of Iuka, Mississippi, to kill her husband. Mailhot is charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree murder.
Arraigned separately at 11 a.m., Hardin County General Sessions Judge Danny Smith read each their arrest affidavits detailing the part each is alleged to have played, and informed them of their rights in going through the criminal justice process.
White said, “I’ve never been through anything like this or been charged or anything – do I get to go home, or do I have to stay here, or what happens?”
Smith replied, “If you make the $2 million bail, you’re free to leave here and go wherever you want. If not, you’ll have to stay here.”
The judge said jailers would explain the bail process in detail.
Their next scheduled court appearance is April 9.
