Jane Whitaker Vaughn, 71, of Adamsville, left this life to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, Aug. 27, at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, Mississippi.

She was the daughter of the late Jerome Reville Whitaker and Ruby Leona Collins Whitaker of Chattanooga.

She was preceded in death by her brother John Whitaker.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joseph Tidwell Vaughn; her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Jennifer Vaughn and Kenneth Oestreich; her son, Justin Whitaker Vaughn (Angie) and her three step-granddaughters, Emma, Alleigh and Anna.

Jane spent her happy childhood in Chattanooga and was the valedictorian of the Class of 1965 at Red Bank High School. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in sociology from Memphis State University in 1969. Throughout her career, she worked as a social worker, educator and mentor to welfare recipients and most recently, was the co-owner of Cyber Tech Systems in Adamsville, alongside her loving husband. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Savannah where she enjoyed playing in the hand bell choir for many years. Prior to her death, she received a Certificate of Appreciation for two years spent in proud civic duty to the federal jury system.  She was an undefeated drag racer, an avid zip-liner, and a lover of music, flowers and summer tomatoes. The roles she treasured most, however, were those of Christian, wife, mother and grandmother.

Services were held on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church  in Savannah with Joe Rutherford and Will Wells officiating. Burial followed in Adamsville Cemetery at Adamsville.
