J.D. Byrd (8-30-18) service 9-2-18

J.D. Byrd, of Counce, was born in Hardin County on Dec. 16, 1937, the son of the late Bart Wayne and Onie Irene Luttrell Byrd. On Aug. 10, 1957, he was united in marriage to Nina Nell Plunk, who survives.
J.D. worked for more than 20 years for the State of Tennessee in maintenance at  Pickwick Golf Course.  He was an avid fisherman, also working for some time as a commercial fisherman.  He enjoyed gardening and also working with pecan trees, of which he had a stand of nearly 40 trees in his own private grove. He was of Church of Christ belief.
J.D. departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 30, in Memphis, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 14 days.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a daughter, Sherry Garner and her husband Guy of Counce; a son, Jimmy Wayne Byrd of Counce; a sister, Wilma Szydlowski of Counce; two grandchildren, Casy Garner and wife Tiffany, and Kevin Garner and wife Keysha; and two great-grandchildren, Bryson Moore and Alyssa Garner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Byrd.
Services were held on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 3:30 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Paul Briley officiating. Burial followed in White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam.
