An investigation by agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment of a prison inmate who is charged in the murder of his cellmate.
According to the TBI, agents began investigating the death of an inmate at the South Central Correctional Facility in Clifton on April 27. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that on that date, inmate Billy McIllwain assaulted Fidencio Perez during an altercation in their cell.
Perez 51, reportedly died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the altercation.
In July, the Wayne County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Billy Earl McIllwain, 38, with one count of second degree murder.
Today, McIllwain was transported from another facility where he was being held, and booked into the Wayne County Jail without bond, the TBI said.
