THP says victims of fiery crash were from Savannah, releases names
The two victims of a fiery Aug. 3 single-vehicle crash in Walnut Grove have been positively identified by DNA analysis through the state Medical Examiner’s office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Tuesday night.
Killed were driver James Anthony White, 47, and the passenger, Joanne Ethridge Troxel, 64, both of Savannah, according to the THP.
The crash report says White was driving south on Holland Creek Road when the 2002 Mercedes M50 he was operating crossed the center of the road, failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center of the road, ran off the west side of the road and then hit a standing tree.
After striking the tree, the vehicle caught fire. The crash was reported at about 11 p.m.
Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, the THP said.
The bodies and the vehicle were burned beyond recognition, but investigators had tentatively identified the victims and notified the families by the following night.
The THP declined to release the names until DNA analysis provided confirmation.
