Gladys Hudspeth (7-7-18) service 7-15-18
Gladys Ruth Roland Hudspeth was born on Jan. 6, 1920, in Davidson County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Eddie Frank and Gillie Angeline Griggs Roland. On Sept. 9, 1939, she was united in marriage to Samuel Lee Hudspeth, who preceded her in death on July 15, 2006.
Mrs. Hudspeth departed this life on Saturday, July 7, at the age of 98 years, 6 months and 1 day.
Mrs. Hudspeth attended First Baptist Church in Savannah and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Savannah. While in high school, Mrs. Hudspeth worked as a floor worker at McClellan Stores in Nashville and met her husband while working there. She later worked in the office and warehouse at Dillon Manufacturing and as a sales associate at Merle Norman Cosmetics, both in Savannah. Her hobbies included sewing, painting, needlework, cooking and antiquing. Sharing stories about her faith and encouraging others to put their trust in God, brought her great joy. Her love for her church and the Lord was shown through her position as a “Girls in Action” leader at First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hudspeth is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hudspeth of Lebanon, Tennessee; grandchildren, Connie O’Neal Copeland and husband Keith of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Susan O’Neal Buse and husband Raymond of Savannah, Katherine Hudspeth Stranahan and husband Aaron of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Merry Hudspeth of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Cody Copeland of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Brianna Copeland of Bartlett, Tennessee, Matthew Probst, Julia Stranahan, and Olivia Stranahan, all of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Naomi Ruth Buse of Savannah; and great-great-grandchild, Korbin Copeland of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hudspeth was preceded in death by her children, Sharon Hudspeth O’Neal and Samuel Lee Hudspeth Jr.; and siblings, Mamie Roland, Lottie Roland Logan, Eddie Frank Roland Jr., James Griggs Roland, Jesse Marine Roland, Mary Roland Scales and Aubry Roland Barrett. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tommy O’Neal.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 14, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors. Services will be held on Sunday, July 15, at 2:30 p.m., at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Nashville with Sister Patricia Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Nashville.
