Savannah shooting victim dies, arrests made

A 22-year-old Selmer man died Monday at about 8:30 p.m. at a Nashville hospital after being shot on Ryan Street earlier in the day, according to Savannah police.
The victim is identified as Kelvin Zaccheus Welch. He had been driven from the scene to Hardin Medical Center’s emergency room by witnesses to the incident, police said.
“The preliminary investigation has revealed that this incident may have stemmed out of an argument between Welch and others. Two males were arrested from the scene for outstanding warrants, and one additional male was arrested for simple possession of marijuana,” the department said in a news release Tuesday.
According to the preliminary investigative report, one of those men, Kentrell Siner, 19, told authorities that Welch was starting to come into his 126 Ryan St. house and that his baby was there, and he shot Welch.
A partially loaded firearm used in the shooting was recovered from a different residence based on information Siner provided. Investigators found two spent casings at Siner’s residence, along with some marijuana and a scale, and arrested Siner on possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges, the report states.
The Savannah Police Department said an active investigation is ongoing, and asked that anyone with information related to the incident contact investigators at 731-925-3200.
