Margaret Davis Vickery, of Savannah, was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Fairfax, Alabama, the daughter of the late Luther E. Sr. and Lottie Ione Chastain Davis.
She was united in marriage to Windell W. Vickery on Jan. 7, 1956.  Mr. Vickery preceded her in death on April 1, 2002, following 46 years of marriage.
After graduating from Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia, Mrs. Vickery entered the Columbus City Hospital School of Nursing, where she completed her degree in 1948 and became a registered nurse.  She worked as a pediatric and surgical nurse for St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, as well as hospitals in Jasper and Sheffield, Alabama for several years before leaving the workforce to become a full-time wife and mother to her husband Windell and two daughters, Alison and Jennifer.
Mrs. Vickery was a gifted and creative artist, seamstress, and cook. She volunteered with the North Elementary PTO and served as a room mother for many years, worked with Brownies and Juniors in the Girl Scouts, served as the nurse for Girl Scout Day Camp, and was a faithful member of Savannah Church of Christ, where she taught 4 and 5-year-old Bible classes for more than 20 years and enjoyed being one of the “quilting ladies.”
She was a devoted Central High School Band Mom, Future Homemakers of America Mom, and supervised the preparation of countless school projects for her children and grandchildren.  Several years ago, “Ms. Pat” Williams asked Mrs. Vickery if she would make puppets for Love and Learn Pre-school, one for each letter of the alphabet, which she gladly did. Her life was one of sacrifice and service for the benefit of others.
Mrs. Vickery departed this life on Friday, April 27, in Savannah, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 15 days.
She is survived by two daughters, Alison Vickery Shackelford and husband Robert of Selmer and Jennifer Vickery Sanders and husband Eric of Old Hickory, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Preston and Autumn Shackelford of Selmer and Jenna Sanders of Old Hickory; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Davis of Old Town, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Vickery was preceded in death by two infant children, Timothy and Susan Vickery; a grandchild, Hunter Shackelford; and a brother, Luther Edward “Ed” Davis Jr.
