James Meek (4-25-18) service 4-28-18
James Travis Meek was born in McNairy County on Feb. 24, 1948, the son of the late Bryson Lee and Mary Alice Layton Meek. On July 6, 1976, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Cotner, who survives.
Mr. Meek departed this life on Wednesday, April 25, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 1 day.
Mr. Meek served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. He was a member of Savannah Church of Christ. In his lifetime, he worked at Aqua Glass for 23 years, Garrand Manufacturing in Adamsville and Hamlin Plastic Manufacturing in Pickwick. Mr. Meek enjoyed fishing and sight-seeing.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Mr. Meek is survived by his stepson, Daniel McCain and wife Ruth Ann of Shiloh; stepgrandchild, Nathaniel McCain; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Mr. Meek was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Meek and Jimmy Layton; sister, Diane Sowell; nieces, Christy Lynn Meek and Christy Sowell; and a nephew, Timmy Sowell.
Services were held on Saturday, April 28, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Barry Binion and Howard Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Mars Hill Cemetery at Adamsville.
