Paul Blount (12-30-17) service 1-3-18

Paul Norman Blount was born in Hardin County on Aug. 13, 1939, the son of the late Jones and Beulah Harrison Blount. On June 11, 1961, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Fowler, who survives.
Paul departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 17 days.
Paul was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and he served his country in the Tennessee National Guard for 10 years. He was a founding member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at U.T. Martin, member of the Hardin County E911 Board, and the past president of the Tennessee Association of Highway Commisioners. In his lifetime, Paul worked as a salesman for Roadbuilder’s Equipment Company/International Harvester for 10 years.  He then founded and operated CSMI and Blount Grading in Crump for 20 years.  In 1998, he was elected as Hardin County Highway Supervisor and served in that position until his death.  He collected road construction equipment, both small scale and full size, and he loved using that equipment to move the earth. Paul enjoyed talking to people and was known as a family historian and especially enjoyed sharing about Hardin County’s history.  His other passion was doing anything with/for his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Paul is survived by his son, Gregory Paul Blount of Savannah; daughter, Mary Carol Blount Alexander and husband Chris of Lexington, Tennessee; sister, Virginia Ann McFall and husband Eugene of Corinth, Mississippi; grandchildren, Elijah Christopher Alexander, Paul Fielder Alexander, Graham Kerr Alexander and Sophia Rose Alexander and her fiancé, Adam Lewis; one great-grandchild, Hattie Rose Lewis; special niece and great nieces, Gina Doran, Cassie Ruddle and Christa Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Paula Jane Blount; and his brothers, Clyde Blount, Bruce Blount and Dean Blount.
Services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m., at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church  in Savannah with Helen Hamilton, Sophia  Rose Alexander and Gregory Blount officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hermon Cemetery at Savannah.
