James Porter (10-15-17) service 10-18-17

James Cherry Porter was born on Aug. 17, 1946, the son of the late Luther Cherry and Katie Petigo Porter.
He departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 15, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 28 days.
James served his country in the United States Army. He attended Bumpus Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W, both in Savannah. James worked for Continental Carriers for 20 years. He enjoyed eating, camping and riding four wheelers, and was an avid outdoorsman.
James is survived by his sons, Peter Porter and wife Janet and Stevie Murphy, both of Savannah; significant other, Bernadette Cossey of Savannah; sister, Patty Ingle and husband Gerald of Savannah; brother, Stevie Hubbard and wife Deborah of Savannah; grandchildren, Peyton Cherry Porter, Christian Porter, Kayla Murphy, Emily Murphy and Chloe Murphy; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sons, Timothy James Porter and Jamie Moffett; and his brothers, Stacy Hubbard and Stanley Hubbard.
Memorial donations can be made to American Diabetes Association and American Cancer Society.
Services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Jimmy McGee officiating. Burial followed in Porter Cemetery at Savannah.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
