Dorothy Smith (9-25-17) service 10-1-17

Dorothy M. Smith, of Milledgeville, was born on May 22, 1921, the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Elizabeth Jane Durham Singleton. On Dec. 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ila B. Smith, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1991.
Dorothy departed this life on Monday, Sept. 25, at the age of 96 years, 4 months and 3 days.
Dorothy M. Smith was the oldest member at Milledgeville United Methodist Church, and she was highly involved in the work done there. She was also very instrumental with helping at the Milledgeville Community Center. She had retired as a machine operator from Brown Shoe Company in Savannah. Dorothy is remembered as an excellent seamstress and a great country cook. She enjoyed making salted dill pickles, fried pies, tea cakes and biscuits. Quilting was one of her favorite hobbies. Her most prized possessions were her family and having Sunday dinner with all of them especially the grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Connie Smith Stephens of Savannah; A Very Special Daughter In Law, Ann Smith of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Perry Neal Smith, Lisa Ann Smith Ozier and Amy Smith; great-grandchildren, Sarah Clayton, Dylan Yager, David Wayne Yager Jr., Hunter Dickey, Calvin Smith, Will Smith and Sybil Smith; and a great-great-grandchild, Alaina Clayton.
Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Neal Smith; brothers, Marshel Singleton, Frank Singleton, Bert Singleton, J.T. Singleton and Ulis Singleton; sister, Ina Mae Singleton Green; and an infant sister.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society Lung Association.
Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m., at Milledgeville United Methodist Church in Milledgeville with Phil Bridges, Jimmy Dyer, Dannie Kennedy and Perry Neal Smith officiating. Burial followed in Milledgeville Cemetery.
