Joe M. Thomas (7-16-17) service 7-19-17

Joe M. Thomas, 90, of Savannah, died on Wednesday, July 16.
He was son to the late Earl and Mary Thomas. He was united in marriage to Robbye Watson, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Thomas served in the United States Navy. He also signed with Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers organization. He later worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., Mallery Depot in Memphis, the main post office in Memphis, and as assistant postmaster in Savannah, where he later became postmaster.
He is survived by one granddaughter; brothers, Frank of Savannah and David of Tulahoma, Tennessee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sons, Mike and Mickey; a sister, Leona Knotts of Nashville; and his brother, Robert Earl of Centerville, Tennessee.
Services were held on Wednesday, July 19, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Johnny Hill officiating. Burial followed in Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
