Leroy Oakley Sr. (7-10-17) service 7-14-17
Leroy Oakley Sr., 84, of Savannah, died on Monday, July 10.
He was the son of the late Walter Oakley and Rosie A. Williams Shannon. He was united in marriage to Johnnie Pearl Prim, who survives.
Mr. Oakley served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of Masonic Lodge. In his lifetime, he worked for Yellow Creek Nuclear Plant in Iuka, Mississippi, Pickwick Dam, Joe Wheeler Dam in Alabama, PCA in Counce, as a construction worker, and GT Steven and Gene Austin as a butcher.
In addition to his wife Johnnie, he is survived by his sons, Lee A. Oakley of Savannah, Johnny R. Oakley of Savannah and Thomas V. Oakley of Iowa City, Iowa; daughters, Rita Nichols, Cecilia D. Thompson and Ramona S. Oakley, all of Savannah; a brother, Leonard Shannon Jr. of Savannah; a sister, Carolyn Marshall of Flint, Michigan; a step-brother, Billy Williams of Ann Arbor, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leroy Oakley Jr.; and his sisters, Rosie Goodlow and Charline Oakley.
Services were held on Friday, July 14, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Lancey Robinson and Dewayne Burge officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
