Stella Prater (6-6-17) service 6-8-17

Stella Lee Stricklin Prater departed this life on Tuesday, June 6, at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, at the age of 85 years, 1 month, 10 days.
She was born April 27, 1932, in Decatur County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Henry Amos and Elmer Briley Steele Stricklin.
She was united in marriage to Tennie Griffin Prater on Jan. 14, 1949. Mr. Prater preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2004.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Prater was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert Stricklin, J.A. Stricklin, Eldred B. Stricklin; and sister, Nettie Verle Waters Conners.
Mrs. Prater was a retired factory worker with Clifton Contracting Company. In her school years she loved basketball and playing for Frank Hughes High School. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church but also attended Revival Center Church in Clifton. Mrs. Stella was a member of Beech Creek FCE Club, Clifton FCE, Red Hat Society in Clifton and the Riverbend Cloggers. She loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, clothes shopping, playing the piano, reading, basket weaving, mowing her yard with a push mower, traveling, talking and being with people, but she especially loved her family, friends, loved her churches, her God and community. She was a good mama and wife with a big heart.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Elaine Prater Pope, husband Jimmy Leon of Clifton; sister, Lela Marie Bowling of Unionville, Tennessee.
Services were held on Thursday, June 8, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro with NJ Pope and Josh Layne officiating. Burial followed in Clifton Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Waynesboro in charge of the arrangements.
