J.C. Thrasher (5-10-17) service 5-12-17

J.C. Thrasher, the 11th child of General Hence and Rachel DeLaney Thrasher, was born in Hardin County on Oct. 28, 1926. He spent his early years in the New Hope community before moving to St. Louis where he briefly worked. Eventually he returned to Hardin County and was introduced to Jinney Marie Wilkerson whom he married on June 1, 1961.  They settled in Savannah, both working with Brown Shoe Company until they retired.
J.C. was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life:  fishing, going to auctions with his wife and son, and just sitting in his swing on the front porch.  Growing tomatoes was a favorite pastime; just two weeks ago he bought this year’s plants, carefully choosing just the right spot close to the porch so he could sit and watch them grow.  Reading was another pleasure in which he indulged.  He would read every newspaper he could – and if he wasn’t reading he was playing Solitaire on his computer. J.C. always enjoyed visiting with his family although they didn’t always know how to take his dry sense of humor.
J.C. Thrasher departed this life on Wednesday, May 10, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 12 days and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Jinney, and his son, Jack Ray Thrasher, J.C. was preceded in death by his six sisters, Hattie Thrasher Perkins Hinton, Delpha Thrasher Wolverton, Vilda Thrasher Phillips, Mae Thrasher Perkins Smith, Alline Thrasher Coats, and Reba Thrasher Sharp Bradley; and his four brothers, Ulus S. Grant Thrasher, William Leslie Thrasher, Herman Millard Thrasher and Clarence Doty Thrasher. 
Services were held on Friday, May 12, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Jim Chamblee and Nancy Erwin officiating. Burial followed in Graham Cemetery at Savannah.
