Royce Rickman (2-28-17) service 3-4-17

Royce Don Rickman, 68, of Valdosta, Georgia, formerly of Adamsville, died on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
He was born in McNairy County, the son of the late Otis and Margie Stanford Rickman.
After earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin, he entered the field of education, beginning his teaching career in Orlando, Florida.  That first job gave him another opportunity as well, that of working cash control during the summers at Walt Disney World when it first opened, with his office being located under Cinderella’s Castle.
Over the years Royce’s chosen profession took him many places including Wayne County High School where he taught for a year and Briar Crest in Memphis, where he taught for two years.  His longest stay proved to be in Adamsville, where he lived, taught and coached for 26 years.  Eventually life took him to Valdosta, Georgia where he worked in the city school systems before retiring. No matter the location, he usually served as the driver education instructor and football or basketball coach.
He was united in marriage to Donna Cannon. Together they have two children, a daughter Julie McCutcheon of Jefferson, Georgia and a son, Jay Rickman  of Cumming, Georgia.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by two brothers, Wayne Rickman of Orlando, Florida and Lynn Rickman of Savannah; two sisters, Diane Newell of Selmer and Rita Thomas of Valdosta, Georgia, four grandchildren; and 15 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Royce was preceded in death by his brother, Neal Rickman; and a sister.
Services were held on Saturday, March 4, at Adamsville High School Gymnasium in Adamsville with Jerry Durham, Wayne Rickman, Janet Ross and Don Todd officiating. Burial followed in Milledgeville Cemetery.
