Jean Milender was born on April 15, 1935, in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Howard and Ruby A. Worley Massey. On Oct. 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to Bobby Joe Milender, who preceded his wife in death on June 17, 2008.
Mrs. Milender was a homemaker and lived in the Counce community all of her life. She was a member of Pickwick United Methodist Church and also attended Pisgah United Methodist Church. Jean enjoyed shopping, going to Goodwill, traveling, and camping by the river. She loved family time and enjoyed cooking for her family.
Jean Milender departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the age of 81 years, 7 months, 25 days.
She is survived by three children, Peggy Johnson and her husband Johnny, Randy Milender, and Lisa Childers and her husband Richard, all of Counce; two brothers, Robert Massey and his wife Betty of Atlanta, Georgia and Jimmy Massey and his wife Alana of Scottsboro, Alabama; six grandchildren, Jennifer Williams and her husband Wade, Joey Johnson and his wife Bridgett, Josh Milender and his wife Jessica, Jessica Pilkinton and her husband Andy, Brad Childers and his wife Julie, and Lindsey Childers; and nine great-grandchildren, Weston Williams, Whitney Williams, Chloe Johnson, Ella Johnson, Bryson Milender, Hayden Milender, Cade Pilkinton, Jase Pilkinton and Canaan Childers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Gerald Milender.
Services were held on Monday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Paul Childers and Ray Chandler officiating. Burial followed in White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam.
