Yvonne Johnson (10-14-16) service 10-19-16

Yvonne Stricklin Johnson, 92, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14.
Yvonne S. Johnson was born on Feb. 8, 1924, in Gillis Mills.
After graduation, she attended Business College in Memphis. She returned home to Savannah to teach typing, shorthand and bookkeeping at the local high school.
She married Burgess Kendrick Johnson of Olive Hill and began her life as a proud wife of a career Marine, continuing to teach as they traveled the country. After BK’s death in 1980, Yvonne grew a successful real estate career in Millington.
When she moved to Pensacola in 1999, she became a resident of Scenic Terrace. Yvonne was a true patriot and was nicknamed the “Flag Lady,” always sewing the exterior flag to pristine condition.
She was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and dearly loved her Sunday school class. Yvonne was a longtime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association and enjoyed politics and nature. In her most recent years, she absolutely loved following golf…especially Tiger and Bubba.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burgess Kendrick Johnson; parents, John Talmadge Stricklin and Cora Parker Stricklin; and her sister, Inez Stricklin Benny Van Tubergen. 
Yvonne lived a full life as a loving wife and mother, “Grandmother” to her grandchildren and “GG” to her great-grandchildren.
She is remembered with love by her daughters, Penny McCaughan (Mark) of Alaska/Washington and Deb Meadows (Bob) of Pensacola; grandchildren, Mark “Tad” McCaughan (Edith) and Debby McCaughan Fields (Mike) of Washington, Penelope Tucker Elebash (Patrick) and Sarah Tucker of Pensacola, Whitney, Rob and Michael Meadows (Laurel); great-grandchildren, Sarah and Caroline Fields, Cora and Roland McCaughan, Emerson and Hunley Elebash, Lily, Eli and Hannah Meadows.
Memorial service were held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 2:30 p.m., preceded by a family burial service at Barrancas National Cemetery NAS Pensacola, Florida, with Rev. Frank Beall and Dr. Hugh Hamilton officiating.  
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to causes Yvonne loved in her respective hometowns: Gulf Coast Kids House – Pensacola, Florida and St. Jude Children’s Hospital – Memphis.
