Billy Joe Davis (9-6-16) 9-11-16

Billy Joe Davis, of Counce, departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 3 days. 
He was born in Henry County, Tennessee on Oct. 3, 1930, the son of the late Dennis Tatum and Lillie Mae Forrester Davis.  On July 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Sarah Boals, who survives.
Billy Joe was a member of the United States Army and served during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged.  He received his Masters degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and went on to teach at Pickwick Southside Elementary School, where he was lovingly known as “Mr. D.” He loved teaching and he loved the kids.  Billy Joe was the owner and operator of Mr. D’s Barbeque.  He was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church, a Mason, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Davis of Counce; children, Joe Davis of Savannah, Gary Davis and wife Heike of Town Creek, Alabama, Roger D. Davis and wife Rebecca of Ashland City, Tennessee, and Delinda Young and husband Chris of Savannah; sister, June Howard of Paris, Tennessee; grandchildren, Davis Young, Eric Young, Blake Young, Sarah Davis, Mary Davis, Samuel Davis and Daniel Davis; stepgrandchildren, Joseph and Phillip McCarrol.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Pickwick Southside School, 1970 Hwy 57, Counce 38326.
Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Danny Atkins officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery at Shiloh, Tennessee.
