Steve Young departed this life on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
He was born in Savannah on May 21, 1939, the son of the late Freeman and Minnie Murphy Young. On June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Donna Franks, who survives.
Steve was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. For more than 50 years, he used his musical talent playing and singing gospel, country, and bluegrass at churches, nursing homes, festivals, school fundraisers and benefits in Hardin County. He enjoyed camping, deer hunting and family vacations. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Woodmen Life Chapter 50, Hardin County Volunteer Fire Department District 8, and Senior Citizen Center Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Young of Savannah; son, Jeff Young and wife Hope of Savannah; daughter, Sherry Williams and husband Basil of Savannah; grandchildren, Brittany Clausel and husband Jonathon, Brooke Young, Nathan Williams and wife Lauren, Daniel Williams, Basil Williams Jr. and Angelia Williams; great-grandchildren, Layla Williams, Gracie Williams, Katilynn Williams and Alex Williams; and sister, Linda Darnell of Savannah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Dawn Young; and brother, Lonny Young.
Services were held on Friday, Aug. 26, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Eric Jones and Wade Holbrook officiating. Burial followed in Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
