Rosie Umphrey (4-18-16) service 4-21-16
Rosie Nell Umphrey, 78, of Savannah, died on Monday, April 18.
She was born in the Piney Grove community of Hardin County, the daughter of the late Charley Ross and Beedie Marie Baskins Dickey. She was united in marriage to James “Jake” Umphrey, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Umphrey was a member of New Harmony Church. She had worked at Angelica Manufacturing, The Button Factory, and Brown Shoe Company.
She is survived by her children, Coley Umphrey, Gloria Cole, Jeff Umphrey, and Jennifer Fielder, all of Savannah; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Davis and Geneva Sheets, both of Adamsville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Neal Umphrey; her daughter, Nancy Gail Umphrey; a granddaughter; sisters, Verda Umphrey, Juanita Dickey, Myrtle Williams, Lady Ruth Harville and Marie Hunt; brothers, Daulton, Wareka, Vernon, C.W., Albert, Larry and William Edgar Dickey.
Services were held on Thursday, April 21, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Johnny Burns officiating. Burial followed in Old Aenon Cemetery at Savannah.
