Lewis E. Roberts, 94, of Savannah, died on Saturday, March 26, at Tennessee Veterans Home in Humboldt, Tennessee.
Service will be at Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church – Nixon Community, on Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jim Wright officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 31, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday April 1, from 10 a.m. until service time at Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery with military honors.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1921.
Mr. Roberts was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers as a lock operator at Pickwick Dam.
He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of DAV, VFW and Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working on cars and gardening. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth L. Roberts (Betty) of Savannah; a daughter, Kay Roberts Hanson of Florence, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Chris H. Roberts of Savannah, Becka Roberts Austin (Kevin) of Savannah, Phan Roberts Nguyen (Tan) of Marrero, Lousiana, Eric Hanson (Trish) of Tallahassee, Florida and Callie H. Carpenter (T.J.) of Florence, South Carolina; nine great-grandchildren, Paul, Elizabeth, David and Timothy Nguyen, Molly, Nate and Patrick Austin, William Williamson and Addison Carpenter; sister, Mary Ellen Patton of Pelham, Tennessee; other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lola Austin Roberts; father, Wiley Crawford Roberts; mother, Fannie Viola Basim Roberts; brothers, Finley Roberts and Hollis Roberts; son-in-law, Dr. Gary W. Hanson; and brother-in-law, Tom Patton.
