Donald Benson, of Savannah, was born in Hardin County on June 5, 1938, the son of the late George Richard and Mamie Austin Benson.
Mr. Benson was a foreman for 30 years at California Pacific Utilities. He loved all sports, especially baseball and golf.
Mr. Benson departed this life on Wednesday, March 9, at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 4 days.
He is survived by his children, Donald Ledford Benson Jr. and Gregory Eugene Benson and his wife Dana, all of Savannah, and Richard Troy Benson of Bullhead City, Arizona; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way; three sisters, Lois Stewart, Josephine Short and Nellie Carroll, all of Savannah; and two brothers, Jimmy and Carmel Benson, both of Savannah.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Tilley, Dossie Lester and Dorothy Highland; and two brothers, Bobby and Lowell Benson.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 15, at 3 p.m., at Walnut Grove Church of Christ in Savannah with David Highland officiating. Burial followed in Hollands Creek Cemetery at Savannah.
