Alton Helton (2-18-16) service 2-21-16
Alton Elvis Helton, of Savannah, departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 18, at the age of 63 years, 11 months, 17 days.
He was born in Savannah on March 1, 1952, the son of Lucille Tanner Reeder and the late Hamm Elvis Helton.
Alton worked as a switchman on the railroad terminal in St. Louis, Missouri. He loved gardening, flea markets, collecting antiques, fishing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Helton of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Johnny Wilson and his wife Kelly of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Amanda Grisham and Dustin Rinks and his wife Cassandra, all of Savannah; mother, Lucille Reeder of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; grandchildren, Lance Ashton, Jacob McClarin, Taylor Grisham and Payton Obispo; sisters, Debbie Copeland of Tennessee, Shirley Helton of Missouri and Pat Wilson and her husband Jimmy of Illinois; brothers, Rick Helton and his wife Sharlene of Illinois, Steve Helton and his wife Esmeralda of Tennessee. Alton is also survived by his soul mate of 15 years, Jo Anna Rinks.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Don Reeder; aunt, Elise Helton; nephew, Shane Greer; and niece, Kim Austin.
Services were held on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Eddie Payne officiating. Burial followed in Savannah Cemetery at Savannah.
