Gladys Staggs Sherrill (2-1-16) service 2-4-16
Gladys Marie (Big Mama) Ray Staggs Sherrill departed this life on Monday, Feb. 1, at her daughter, Glenda’s home, in Adamsville, at the age of 86 years, 7 months, 25 days.
She was born June 7, 1929, in Waynesboro, the daughter of the late Charlie and Dollie Mae Pulley Ray.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sherrill was preceded in death by husbands, Taylor Edna Staggs and Roy Daniel Sherrill; a daughter, Betty Garrett; a son, Samuel Taylor (Bodie) Staggs; grandson, Timothy Gray and granddaughter, Mandy Copeland.
Mrs. Sherrill was a retired factory worker/homemaker and member of the Baptist church and is survived by daughters, Freddie Mae Gray and Shirley Morrow, both of Waynesboro, Glenda Ponds of Adamsville, Mary Copeland of Savannah, and Faye Greer of Perry County, Tennessee; son, John Elbert Staggs of Waynesbor; grandchildren; Nora, Gary and William Gray, Vickie Morrow, Robert, Michael, Daniel, Nathan and Scottie Garrett, Penny Barkley, Johnnie and Jamie Staggs, Teresa Thompson, Jeff Morrow, Brandy Carter, Kevin Nance, Bryon and Chris Ponds, Steven Copeland, Stephanie Bain and Kayla Nance; 34 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Waynesboro, with Glen Miller and Sandy Potts officiating. Burial was in Culp’s Chapel Cemetery, Perry County, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing.
