Fred Calvert (10-3-15) service 10-7-15
Fred Calvert was born in Tarrant City, Alabama on March 27, 1927, the son of the late Joseph and Eula McKay Calvert.
On July 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Stricklin, who preceded her husband in death on Jan. 2, 2014.
Mr. Calvert served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a supervisor for General Motors from 1956 to 1985. Mr. and Mrs. Calvert were apartment managers for Simco Northberry Colony in Warren, Ohio for 15 years. Mr. Calvert was a member of the Scottish Rite and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a former deacon at First Freewill Baptist Church in Austintown, Ohio. Mr. Calvert loved woodworking and decorating at Christmas. He was very patriotic and loved eagles and the American flag.
Mr. Calvert departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Savannah, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 6 days.
He is survived by his children, Kathy Moody and her husband Bob of Warren, Ohio and Tom Calvert of Savannah; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mr. Calvert is also survived by two nieces, Barbara Bielke and Peggy Morgan.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, James Allen Calvert; his daughter in law, Annick C. Calvert, the wife of Tom Calvert; one sister, Margaret (Polly) Raby; and three brothers, Homer, Stentson and George Calvert.
Services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah.
