Elige McDaniel, 85, of Antioch, Tennessee, died Thursday, Aug. 6.
He was born in Savannah, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Coleman McDaniel Sr. and Mary Dixon McDaniel.
In 1952 Mr. McDaniel joined the U.S. Army and served four years in Germany and Korea. After serving his time in the military he later moved to Flint, Michigan where he retired from the V/8 Engine Plant, a Division of General Motors.
He is survived by his sons, Varrick McDaniel of Nashville and Maurice of Flint, Michigan; daughters, Shelia Ferguson of Nashville, Mary of Elkhart, Indiana, and Jeanette Stephens of Savannah; brothers, Johnny McDaniel of Flint, Michigan, and Don McDaniel of Paris, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Coleman McDaniel Sr. and Mary Dixon McDaniel; wife, Cora Mae McDaniel, son, Derrick McDaniel; sister, Mary Myrtle Cherry; and brothers, Coleman McDaniel Jr. and Lonzo McDaniel.
Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Prentiss Burdine and Eddie Payne officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
