Allen Phillips (8-15-15) service 8-18-15
Allen B. Phillips, of Shiloh, departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the age of 89 years, 2 months, 24 days.
He was born in Shiloh on May 22, 1926, the son of the late Joe and Mamie Brown Phillips. On June 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Martha Chandler, who survives.
Allen served in the Army from 1950 through 1952. He worked for the United States States Postal Service and retired as Post Master. He was the owner of the Shiloh National Park Military Souvenir Shop. Allen was a member of the Retired Postmasters Association, Lions Club, and Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department. His passion was fishing, yard work and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha Chandler Phillips of Shiloh; son, Joseph Phillips and wife Nila of Shiloh; grandchildren, Justin Phillips and wife Alison, Kristina Phillips Franks and husband Joey; great-grandchildren, Gavin Phillips, Jackson Franks, Grayson Phillips and Kingston Franks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Faye Phillips Martin, Ressie Phillips Lee, Johnnie Louise Phillips, Annie Sue Phillips Bradford and Mildred Ann Phillips; and brother, Joe Cephus Phillips Jr.
Services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Joey Franks officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery at Shiloh.
