Joe Lynn Cherry was born in Hardin County on July 23, 1971, the son of Bobby Joe and Helen Jean Franks Cherry.
On July 14, 2001, he was united in marriage to Wanda Kay Tanner, who survives.
Lynn, as he was known by everyone, was a watch captain for American Commercial Lines. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Lynn loved fishing, deer hunting, drag racing and being outdoors. He most of all loved spending time with his family and friends and working on the towboat.
Lynn departed this life on Saturday, March 28, in Louisiana at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 5 days.
In addition to his wife of 13 years, Wanda of Savannah, he is survived by his children, Colby, Timothy, Kayla and her boyfriend Eric Simpson, who he thought of like a son, all of Savannah; his parents, Bobby Joe Cherry and Helen Franks Cherry of Savannah; two sisters, Pam Cherry Everett and her husband Corey of Pearl, Mississippi and Rebecca Cherry Avent and her husband David of Nesbit, Mississippi and one half brother, Bobby Paul Cherry of Savannah.
Lynn was also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carrie and Lawrence Peerey and Winnie and Floyd Cherry.

Services were held on Thursday, April 2, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Clark Culver and Joey Franks officiating. Burial followed in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
