Lorraine Carr (1-12-15) service 1-16-15
Lorraine Shelby Carr, age 93, of Savannah, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, in Gainesville, Georgia.
She was born in Hardin County on Oct. 19, 1921, to Thomas Oscar and Ester Gean Shelby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Douglas “Bud” Carr; sister, Inez Hardin; and brothers, Glenn Shelby, Vernon Shelby, Oliver Shelby and Bruce Shelby.
Mrs. Carr was a longtime member of Robertson Chapel United Methodist Church and throughout her life enjoyed being involved in church and community activities. Retirement from Brown Shoe Company allowed her more time to pursue interests in gardening, needlework and craft projects, as well as enjoy trips and visits with her family. She was a member of the Sunshine Home Demonstration Club and Quilting Club. Well known for her baking skills, family and friends always looked forward to one of her famous caramel cakes lovingly baked for their special occasions and at Christmas, could count on coconut cakes and boiled custard.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Joe Meadows of Gainesville, Georgia; grandson, Andrew Meadows and his wife Amanda of Savannah, Georgia; sisters, Bonnie Shelby of Savannah, Robbie Weatherford of Clinton, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Margurite Shelby of Spanish Fort, Alabama. In addition she leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and special friends.
We, her family and community of friends, have been richly and lovingly blessed by her presence in our lives.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m., in Shackelford Chapel with Jason Estes officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens.
