Gladys Melson Brown, 94, of Woodstock, Illinois, formerly of Savannah, died Thursday, Dec. 11.
She was born in Wayne County, daughter to the late William and Lillie Brewer Melson. She was united in marriage to Benton Brown, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brown was employed at Garment Manufacturing as a machine operator. She was also a pastor’s wife and served many congregations of the Freewill Baptist faith in Middle and West Tennessee and in Northern Alabama.
She is survived by two children, Iva Brown Farris of Savannah and Robert Brown of Harvard, Illinois; three siblings, Herbert Melson of Mishawaka, Indiana, Frank Melson of Harvard, Illinois, and Elizabeth Harville of Savannah; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Charlie, Robert, Austin, Virgil, Billy and Monroe Melson; and four sisters, Christine Melson, Mary Melson, Carrie Welch and Sarah Franks.
Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Chad Balentine officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery at Wayne County.
