Tom Smith (12-5-14) service 12-9-14

Thomas Jack “Tom” Smith departed this life on Friday, Dec. 5, at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 10 days. He was born on Jan. 25, 1936, in Counce, son to the late James Edward “Edd” and Ethel Mae Shipman Smith. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Joe Hurley of Counce on July 5, 1967, who survives.
Tom was a retired owner of the T.J. Smith Trucking Company. He was also a member of Pickwick Church of Christ. He loved fishing and playing cards and checkers.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Joe and Tim Carmack, Carolyn Gant and Tommy Smith all of Counce and Jill Gammill of Savannah; two sons-in-law, Phillip Gammill and Sam Gant; two daughters-in-law, Krystal Carmack and Ginger Smith; one sister, Betty Jane Smith of Counce; three brothers, Ray and Gerald Smith, both of Counce and Jim Smith of the Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee; grandsons, Camron Gant, Dillon Carmack, Jacob Carmack, Seth Gant, and Landon Smith; and one granddaughter, Alexandria McGee.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, James Olan Smith and Ottie Smith; and sisters, Vonda Ruth Smith Roberts and Carolyn Jean Smith.
Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m., at Pickwick Church of Christ in Counce with Chance Steen officiating. Burial followed in White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam.
