Coy Morris departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 16, at Hardin Medical Center at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 7 days. He was born on April 9, 1926, the son of the late Jonas Walter and Effie Steely Morris.
He was united in marriage to Virginia Barrier, who survives.
Mr. Morris was employed as a laborer for Hardin County Waste Management for 20 years. He was a member of the Second Creek Church of Christ in Savannah and lived in Hardin County all of his life. Coy enjoyed gardening, farming and raising cattle. He also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda Brooks of Savannah; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Savannah and Wilodean King of Lexington, Tennessee; two brothers, Ancil Morris and Boyd Morris, both of Savannah; three grandchildren, Stacy Crotts, Bethany White and Julie Brooks; and five great-grandchildren, Maggie White, Sophie White, David White, Aiden Crotts and Tyler Crotts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Oakley Weston and two infant sisters; and four brothers, Johnny Morris, Roy Morris, Floyd Morris and Earl Morris.
Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with David Highland and Westley Hazel officiating. Burial followed in the Centenary Cemetery at Waynesboro.
