Danny Churchwell was born April 22, 1950, in Corinth, Mississippi, the son of the late James A., Sr. and Flora Fisher Churchwell.
He was united in marriage to Anita Kay Wardlow on July 20, 1973.
Danny was the salutatorian of his graduating class at Michie High School. He began playing the piano at an early age. By age 8, he was playing in church; at age 12, he began playing for various groups, traveling to Nashville on weekends to play for gospel quartets. Danny turned his talent and love of music into his career, teaching piano to many students over the course of his lifetime. He was a computer whiz and a Tennessee Volunteers and Peyton Manning fan. Danny was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, where he played piano for many years. He also played piano for Ramer Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Danny departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 2, in Memphis, at the age of 64 years, 6 months, 11 days.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Anita Kay (Wardlow) Churchwell of Michie; a son, Philip Churchwell of Michie; a daughter, Dana (Churchwell) Martin and husband Melvin of Savannah; five grandchildren: Mallory Churchwell, Megan Churchwell, Marianna Martin, Jarrett Martin and Joshua Martin; a sister, Janice Wood of Michie; a brother, Tommy Churchwell of Michie; five nephews, Stan Churchwell, Mark Churchwell, Lamar Wood, Ken Wardlow and wife Brandi, and Van McMahan and wife Christy; five nieces, Janie Wood, Bethany Campbell and husband Alex, Sheri Shirley, Lisa Hill and husband Ricky, and Janet Reyes and husband Douglas; two sisters-in-law, Joan Churchwell and Pat McMahan; a brother-in-law, Bobby Wardlow and wife Edith; and many more extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by three brothers, James A. (Buster) Churchwell Jr., Joel Churchwell and George Churchwell.
Services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m., at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Michie with Albert Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery at Michie.
Memorial contributions in memory of Danny may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
