Opal Oakley, 99, of Savannah, died Sunday, Sept. 7.
She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Lon and Viola Leigh Southern Blackwelder. She was united in marriage to Bernis Oakley, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Oakley was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. View Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy Oakley Durbin, Linda Faye Stricklin and Annie Murphy, all of Savannah, and “Tub” Oakley of Pulaski, Tenn.; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Easter Bowling of Hammond, Ind.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Leon Oakley; two brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service was held on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Shady Hill Cemetery in Savannah with Paul Briley officiating.
