Donnie Mitchell (8-3-14) service 8-15-14

Donnie Ray (Peck) Mitchell was born Dec. 10, 1960, in Hardin County, the son of the late Elmer Gant and Dorothy Mitchell Gant, who survives.
Mr. Mitchell served his country in the National Guard and was a member of the American Legion. He owned and operated Mitchell Heating and Air for 23 years before becoming a self-employed DLD Transportation truck driver. He was a member of the Savannah Moose Lodge and the Pickwick Moose Lodge. He loved to golf, play basketball and play poker. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Mitchell departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 3, at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 24 days.
In addition to his mother, Dorothy Gant, of Savannah, he is survived by his daughter, Latonya Durham and his son, Derick Mitchell, both of Savannah; his grandchildren, Gage Durham and Maylee Mitchell; his former wife, Melessa Mitchell of Savannah; his brother, Ronnie Lynn Mitchell of Savannah; his half-sisters, Darla Ritter of Morris Chapel and Sonya Fralix of Crump; his half-brothers, Yogi Benson, Dustin Benson and Steve Barrier, all of Savannah; and a host of friends and family.
Services were held on Friday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Bob Rainey, Clark Jones, Beverly Worley and Shannon Baugus officiating. Burial followed in the Piney Grove Cemetery at Savannah.
