Billy Laden departed this life on Friday, Aug. 22, at the age of 97 years, 6 months, 18 days.
He was born in Hardin County, Tenn., on Feb. 4, 1917, the son of the late William Lee Sr. and Molly Duncan Laden. On Aug. 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marguerite Prince, who preceded him in death on June 10, 2014.
Billy worked as a farmer, U.S. Postal Service as an Assistant Post Master, Hardin County ASCS Office and at the Exxon Station. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and Woodmen of the World.
Billy enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, talking with people and sharing old stories and memories. To his family he was a devoted husband for 71 years and devoted father; to his church, Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian, he was a faithful member, devoted elder and a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by a son, Bobby L. Laden and wife Brenda of Savannah; granddaughter, Laura Beth Laden of Savannah; nieces, Nell Laden Dicus of Savannah and Mary Ruth Ledbetter of Waynesboro, Va.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Johnnie Laden, Mary Hargrove, Annie Neill and Jackle Beckham.
Memorial donations can be made to the Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 6095 Highway 226, Savannah, Tenn., 38372 or Savannah Church of Christ, 1175 Pickwick St., Savannah, Tenn., 38372.
Services were held on Monday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m., at Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah with Duwayne Pounds, Byron Forester and Chad Balentine officiating. Burial followed in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
