Inez Gilkey, service 6-14-14
Inez Gilkey was born in the Piney Grove community in Hardin County, Tenn., on Nov. 5, 1942 to Burgess F. McCasland and Gilberta Beth Phillips McCasland. She graduated from Central High School in Savannah in 1960 and then attended West Tennessee Business College. She married Robert (Bob) Kent Gilkey on Feb. 16, 1962 and they had three children.
Inez held jobs as bookkeeper for Grady Qualls Amoco, Savannah Broadcasting and was a receptionist for the local cable office. She retired from the Hardin County Election Commission as deputy election administrator in 2005. In her past, she was a member of the Savannah Jaycettes and held the position of president. Inez was an avid UT football fan and traveled to many games with friends and family by car, boat, train and plane. She loved her family and friends and cherished every moment spent with them. Inez was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert (Bob) Gilkey; her mother, Gilberta Phillips McCasland of Savannah; son Robert Kent Gilkey Jr. (Anitra) of Selmer, Tenn.; daughters, Dana (Rich) Spindler and Shannon (Buddy) Shaw, both of Savannah; sister, Sheryl Wolfe, Lebanon, Tenn.; brother, Kerry (Pam) McCasland of Crump; five grandchildren, Will (Ashley) Shaw, Jacob Shaw, Jessica Stoughton, Megan Stoughton and Austin Spindler; and two great-granddaughters, Aaliyah Bumphus and Lorelei Shaw. She was preceded in death by her father, Burgess F. McCasland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to the Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center, 935 Wayne Road, Savannah, Tenn. 38372. Services were held on June 14, at 5 p.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah, with Joyce Heffernan officiating. Burial followed in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
