Perry Barrier (3-27-14) service 3-31-14

Perry “J.V.” Barrier departed this life Thursday, March 27, at the age of 90 years, 7 months, 11 days.

He was born in Hardin County on Aug. 16, 1923, the son of the late Audra J. and Ollie A. Austin Barrier. On Dec. 29, 1945, he was united in marriage to Louella Richardson, who survives.

Mr. Barrier was a lumber truck driver for Arthur Cossey, truck driver and carpenter for Hassell Lumber Company. He had also worked for Temple-Chattanooga Company and Wise Company. Mr. Barrier was an honest, hardworking, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to garden, hunt and fish. He enjoyed working in his shop doing carpentry work and could make anything with a pattern or picture.

Mr. Barrier is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louella Richardson Barrier of Savannah; son, Gary Wayne “Slim” Barrier and wife Susan of Savannah; daughter, Linda Diane Polk and husband Tony of Savannah; grandchildren, Lori D. LaPack of Prattville, Ala., Walter Pickett, Dewayne Polk, and Kevin Barrier all of Savannah; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Reba Rainey and Josephine White both of Savannah and a brother, Elvin Barrier of Elkhart, Ind.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Doty Gene, Loyal, Doyle, Bobby Dean and Troy Barrier.

Services were held Monday, March 31, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Tony Polk and Benny Taylor officiating. Burial followed at Savannah Cemetery in Savannah.
