Sadie Irene Scovel Thomas was born in Yazoo City, Miss., on March 6, 1935, the daughter of the late Harry Leander and Susie Irene Blair Hill.

Ms. Thomas was a professional seamstress and owner and operator of Alterations by Sadie. She was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, a volunteer at the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce and she assisted with the Hardin County Imagination Library. She enjoyed reading, working puzzle books, playing cards and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She departed this life Thursday, Feb. 6, in Savannah at the age of 78 years and 11 months.

She is survived by her children, Sandi Irene Hicks and her husband Robert of Savannah, Dennis F. Scovel of Pascagoula, Miss., Harry A. Scovel and his wife Carol of Wiggins, Miss., Glenn E. Scovel of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Christopher Eugene Jones; eight grandchildren, Chase Hicks, Kelly Irene Hicks Alcott and husband Tony, all of Savannah, Laura Scovel, Anna Scovel, Luke Scovel and Caleb Scovel, all of Wiggins, Miss., Kevin Scovel and Justin Scovel, both of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two great-grandchildren, Addie Irene Alcott and Bella Hope Alcott, both of Savannah and a brother, Louis Hill of Maryland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Benjamin Scovel, two sisters, Dot Rogers and Rosemary Hill and two brothers, Milton and Chester Hill.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Harry Scovel and Mike Moore officiating.
