W. E. Spears Jr. was born in Savannah, on March 11, 1929, the son of the late Wilson Earl Spears, Sr. and Ollie May Kelly Spears. On Nov. 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Anita Faye Harris, who preceded her husband in death on Sept. 29, 2013.

Mr. Spears worked for Brown Shoe Company for 40 plus years and also had worked for Ray May Motors. He enjoyed mowing the yard and doing any kind of yard work, hunting of all types, Tennessee football and the Tennessee Women’s basketball. Mr.
Spears also enjoyed collecting antique glassware and chickens. He also enjoyed riding around and looking at the scenery. He was a member of Savannah Church of Christ, Savannah Volunteer Fire Department, the Tennessee National Guard for eight years and the Savannah Jaycees. He also served as a Hardin County election commissioner. '

He departed this life on Friday, Nov. 15, in Adamsville, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 4 days.

Mr. Spears is survived by his children, Janie Spears Blount and husband, Freddy and Gary Spears and wife, Vicki all of  Savannah; three grandchildren, Bradley Spears and wife, Anna, Matthew Blount and wife, Rebecca and Jeremy Blount and wife, Kelli; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Blount and Keegan Blount and Baby Boy Blount due in January of 2014; five  sisters, Edna Wolfe of Savannah, Betty Miller of Jackson, Tenn., Barbara Williams of Savannah, Nancy Prater of Savannah, and Katherine Hinton of Savannah; and one brother, James Thomas Spears of Stantonville.

In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by one sister, Frankie Nell Spears.

Services were held on Monday, Nov. 18, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Jim Chamblee and Westley Hazel officiating. Burial followed at Savannah Cemetery in Savannah.
